(Orlando, FL) – Congressman Alan Grayson wants to extend his sincere congratulations to U.S. Supreme Court Justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor. She is the first Hispanic woman ever nominated to the country’s highest court.
"I am very pleased with the nomination. Judge Sotomayor has more experience as a judge than any nominee in the past century. She is clearly the best qualified and it shows how much progress we have made as a nation to have a latina be the top candidate to join the Supreme Court and an African American as President. It is inspiring to see how far this country has come in the past 220 years,” Grayson said.
Sotomayor and Grayson grew up not far from each other in the Bronx borough of New York City. "It shows that people from the Bronx can rise to national recognition," Grayson joked.
President George H.W. Bush appointed Judge Sotomayor to the U.S. District Court in 1992. She was promoted to the U.S. Court of Appeals by President Bill Clinton. Congressman Grayson hopes and expects the U.S. Senate will conduct the confirmation process in a bipartisan, fair, and quick manner.
